Prayer for Family: Over 35 Inspiring Prayer Points + Verses

It is no secret, the sanctity of the Christian family is under threat. Robbing us of our core values. The danger of this is that when the family fails, children grow up in brokenness. Outside of redemption, a broken child will become a broken adult.

A broken adult will, in turn, raise his own broken children. The cycle continues to come back until broken. The only way is through prayer for the family. Placing it all in God’s mighty hands.

The bible says “It is only the anointing that breaks the yoke.” Our prayer points will direct you as you seek to release God’s anointing into all your affairs.

God forbid that your family would break. Prayer is the key to changing our homes. How do you think the prayer of Jabez affected his entire family? It is through prayer that we can begin to foster transformation. Let us enhance family prayer. Not any prayer, but prayer with scripture about family. There is power in praying the word. Placing everything in his loving hands.

In the mighty name of Jesus, Lord, we bless these prayer points. May your anointing be with all people who will make use of your word and these prayer points. May your presence be in their homes, their hearts, and all their affairs. We speak the direction of the Holy Spirit as they pray.

Open their eyes and lead their mouths as they speak to you, oh Lord. We bless your name, for heaven’s ear is open to our prayers, and your hand is swift to our rescue. We need rescuing. Oh, Lord. We thank you, Lord. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen

May the Lord give you strength and resolve as you are praying for yourself and your family.

  1. May your anointing be with all people who will make use of your word and these prayer points.
  2. May your presence be in their homes, hearts, and all their affairs.
  3. We speak the direction of the Holy Spirit as they pray. Open their eyes and lead their mouths as they speak to you, oh Lord.

Interceding for Family

Exodus 33:15

Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.

Dedication is a key part of the prayer for family. Our prayer point at this moment is to ask the Lord to go with our family. We want to take time to dedicate our families into the Lord’s hands.

We want to pray that his presence would go with them wherever they are. We want to speak a covering over each one of them. Name them, if you will. Father place a covering over my brothers, my sisters, my cousins, my parents and all in our sphere of influence. Raise us to be a people of prayer. Below is our praying scripture.

Joshua 24:15

And if it seems evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Father, I dedicate my family to you. From this day on, we dissociate from all affiliations with anything that is contrary to your will. We break all evil affiliations from previous generations, we break altars erected to other gods in past generations from my maternal and from my paternal side. This is your family Lord! This generation going forward in Jesus’ name.

By the blood of Jesus, we break any covenants made in our bloodline, with any God but you. Father, we stand against generational curses! We call our families blessed, in the mighty name of Jesus! Amen.

  1. We want to pray that his presence would go with them wherever they are.
  2. We want to speak a covering over each one of them. Name them, if you will. Father place a covering over my brothers, my sisters, my cousins, my parents and all in our sphere of influence.
  3. From this day on, we dissociate from all affiliations with anything that is contrary to your will.
  4. We break all evil affiliations from previous generations, we break altars erected to other gods in past generations from my maternal and from my paternal side.
  5.  By the blood of Jesus, we break any covenants made in our bloodline, with any God but you.
  6.  Father, we stand against generational curses! We call our families blessed, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ! Amen.

Prayer for vision

Proverbs 29:18

18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

The biggest threat for any family today is a lack of vision. The scripture above shows that where this is the case, the people perish. This is the reason more and more families are seen to be perishing today. God forbid that this would be the case for your family. We are believing God for an outpouring of vision into our homes today, in Jesus’ name.

Father, we pray that you would grant vision to our fathers, to our mothers and to the rest of the family. Pour vision into them for such a time of this. We come against all forms of stagnancy. We speak progression into all they do, in Jesus’ name.

  1. Father, we pray that you would release vision into our fathers, into our mothers and into the rest of the family. Pour vision into them for such a time of this.
  2. We come against all forms of stagnancy. We speak progression into all they do, in Jesus’ name.

Prayer for Leadership

Matthew 20:26

26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,

Every new generation requires to be directed by those that have come before them. Even Jesus sat at the feet of Joseph, to learn carpentry. A crisis of leadership is another issue that our families are facing today. Without family prayer, we have no chance.

We want to pray for the Lord to raise new leaders within our families. That is our next prayer for family. May he raise sleeping giants who have been dosing off on their job, men and women who have not stepped up into leadership roles.

Wherever there is a void Lord, raise a man or woman to fill it. Father, we pray that there may never be times where there are no leaders in our families. May wisdom flow from one generation to another, in Jesus’ name.

We thank you for all leaders in the family today, we pray for preservation in Jesus’ name. Satisfy them with long lives, that they may pass wisdom to the younger ones. Use them to raise and equip new generations of leaders to come behind them.

  1. We want to pray for the Lord to raise new leaders within our families.
  2. May he raise sleeping giants who have been dosing off on their job, men and women who have not stepped up into leadership roles.
  3. Wherever there is a void Lord, raise a man or woman to fill it. Father, we pray that there may never be times where there are no leaders in our families.
  4. May wisdom flow from one generation to another, in Jesus’ name.

Bible verses about family unity

Psalm 133

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together in unity!

2 It is like the precious oil upon the head,
Running down on the beard,
The beard of Aaron,
Running down on the edge of his garments.
3 It is like the dew of Hermon,
Descending upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the Lord commanded the blessing—
Life forevermore.

Where there is unity, God commands a blessing! It is such a simple principle. That is why it can be difficult to remain united. We believe that this is the reason many homes are devoid of God’s blessing, there is a lack of unity. Family members are pitting and plotting against one another. If only we would unite, for there, lays God’s blessing! Our prayer point for the family in this regard is that God would bless us with unity.

Father, we come up against every deep seeded root of bitterness in our hearts. Teach us to forgive and to forget as you have done for us. Lord, we ask that you would help us to let go of all hurt and offence that has been inflicted on us by family members.

Help us to release the grudges and hatred that have been passed down from previous generations. As you have given us a clean slate by the blood of Christ, give us the grace to extend that same love to others.

Lord, bring us together, we come against all forms of division in our families in Jesus’ name. We expel all forms of discord and disunity, in Jesus’ name. Renew love that has been lost among us.

We cast away all forms of pride and arrogance that may stand in the way of peace and unity. Bless us, dear Lord! Unite us. Call back those that have long been estranged from us. Breed family forgiveness.

  1. Father, we come up against every deep seeded root of bitterness in our hearts.
  2. Teach us to forgive and to forget as you have done for us.
  3. Lord, we ask that you would help us to let go of all hurt and offence that has been inflicted on us by family members.
  4. Help us to release the grudges and hatred that have been passed down from previous generations.
  5. As you have given us a clean slate by the blood of Christ, give us the grace to extend that same love to others.

Prayer for unity

Lord, I pray that you would unite our family in unity, in love and in purpose. Open my heart and my eyes to be a catalyst for this. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Prayer for Health

Exodus 23:25

“But you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water; and I will remove sickness from your midst.

Our praying scripture is Exodus 23:25. Above all else, we desire that our families would be blessed with good health. If there isn’t good health, physical and spiritual, we will perish. God forbid that we would perish. Safeguard our precious family.

Our prayer point for the family today, is that of divine health. Dear Lord, we ask that you would bless us with divine health. We come against all forms of sickness in Jesus’ name. We believe in family healing through God’s healing power. We pray for healing in those that are with a disease, in Jesus’ name. Where our spirits have become weary, revive us oh Lord! We pray for spiritual health, revive our prayer lives, revive our faith and all areas that have slumbered within us, in Jesus’ name.

  1. Dear Lord, we ask that you would bless us with divine health. We come against all forms of sickness in Jesus’ name.
  2. We pray for healing in those that are with a disease, in Jesus’ name.
  3. Where our spirits have become weary, revive us oh Lord!
  4. We pray for spiritual health, revive our prayer lives, revive our faith and all areas that have slumbered within us, in Jesus’ name.

Prayer for the Children in my family

Matthew 19:14

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Our praying scripture is Matthew 19:14. In any family, Our children are our heritage; they are the essence of our futures and the homes that we build. It is God’s will that we would protect these people while they are yet vulnerable. We are to be their anchors as they make their way through the world’s troubled waters. We are to train them into the way that they are to go.

Our prayer for the family in this regard is that the Lord would equip all parents, even now as we pray, to raise children the way that you would want them raised, oh Lord. We come against all forms of earthly wisdom, the wisdom that is sensual and demonic. Give parents divine wisdom to raise their children your way, oh Lord!

Father we pray for the children, we come against any hindrance, anything that would stand in the way of them coming to you!

Matthew 18:4

And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Father, we pray that you would preserve our children, preserve their faith, maintain their purity in an impure world. We come against all snares of the enemy set to trap them. Surround them with good leadership and counsel. We thank you for blessing them with supportive friends, in Jesus’ name. Amen

  1. Lord would equip all parents, even now as we pray, to raise children the way that you would want them raised, oh Lord.
  2. We come against all forms of earthly wisdom, the wisdom that is sensual and demonic.
  3. Give parents divine wisdom to raise their children your way, oh Lord!
  4. Father we pray for the children, we come against any hindrance, anything that would stand in the way of them coming to you!
  5. Father, we pray that you would preserve our children, preserve their faith, maintain their purity in an impure world.
  6. We come against all snares of the enemy set to trap them. Surround them with good leadership and counsel. We thank you for blessing them with supportive friends, in Jesus’ name. Amen

Prayer for my Parents

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go;
Even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Parents are the bedrock of any family. There is no clear game plan for parents to follow when raising our children. The entire family looks to us, as parents.

As you already know there are many methods and paths that we will take while trying to get to the same destination. Unfortunately, a lot will fail to get there. We see this in our prisons, in our day to day interactions with children from all walks of life. There is a crisis that ought to be remedied. That is part of a prayer for the family.

Our prayer points for the family in this regard will begin with praying for mothers. Lord we bring mothers into your hands right now, we pray that you would give them the strength to endure day to day challenges. May your strength be made perfect in their weaknesses.

Father, we pray that as the world continues to evolve, you would prepare them to be relevant and geared mothers for such a time as this. May they never feel inadequate. Teach them to lean on you, and never on their own understanding. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Our next prayer point for the family will be focusing on the fathers. Lord, we pray that you would raise up fathers in this fatherless generation. May their hearts be called back to their children.

Raise more and more men to stand in the gap left by absent fathers! We pray for wisdom for the fathers as they lead, and humility that they may be led by you in all that they do.  In the mighty name of our Savior Jesus, we pray.

Prayer for my Grandparents

Any time you look through scripture, you will note the role that older generations would play in equipping and setting up the next generation for success.

They were men and women of prayer, as well as wisdom. Our prayer points for the family here are that God would raise more and more of such grandparents. May God raise mighty grandparents in your family.

Dear Lord, we ask that you would equip the elderly generation, give them boldness to speak into the lives of the younger ones. Give them the wisdom to do it right. Father, we speak against the feeling of inadequacy or irrelevance. Give them platforms to speak, and ears to listen. In the name of Jesus. Amen

Father, we pray for the preservation of their mental health. We come against diseases of the elderly, preserve them in Jesus’ name. We come against Alzheimers and dementia, give them sound minds in Jesus’ name.

We pray for companionship as they grow older. In Jesus’ name, we stand against loneliness. Give them peace and joy, all the days of their lives.

  1. Dear Lord, we ask that you would equip the elderly generation, give them boldness to speak into the lives of the younger ones.
  2. Give them the wisdom to do it right. Father, we speak against the feeling of inadequacy or irrelevance.
  3. Give them platforms to speak, and ears to listen. In the name of Jesus. Amen
  4. Father, we pray for the preservation of their mental health. We come against diseases of the elderly, preserve them in Jesus’ name. We come against Alzheimers and dementia, give them sound minds in Jesus’ name.
  5. We pray for companionship as they grow older. In Jesus’ name, we stand against loneliness. Give them peace and joy, all the days of their lives.

Prayer for Finance

Philipians 4:19

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Financial issues are the cause of the bulk of strife that families encounter. One family member not helping another financially. Another family member wanting what the other one has.

Yet another family member thinking the other got something they didn’t deserve. The most common one within the immediate family is strife that comes from a family struggling together month to month.

There is bound to be friction. Increased friction leads to family members not talking. God forbid that you would become a family that only meets for funerals. Death will humble us all.

God’s promise is that he will meet all our needs. Our prayer point for the family finances is those of gratitude, for we know God is bound by his word. Whatever he says is, is. These are our prayers for the family.

  1. Father, we thank you for meeting our family’s needs from month to month. We thank you for we have no lack.
  2. Lord, we speak a blessing overall family members, extended family and all. Meet their needs in this season. We declare that their tables will never be without food, they will have a room over their heads and peace in their hearts.
  3. We come against the spirit of the devourer in our family. Whatever we have sown, we will reap and enjoy.
  4. We pray for wisdom to be good stewards in our finances.
  5. We come against arrogance and greed in our hearts. Bless us to be a blessing to all around us.

We sure hope that you have derived tremendous value from prayer for family. Standing in the gap for our loved ones. Why not make these part of your daily prayer? A short prayer goes a long way. After all, the family is a wonderful blessing.

Our team’s goal is to continue to develop prayer aids that will continue to raise, enrich and to empower prayer warriors across the world. We are always looking to partner with ministries and individuals to achieve this goal. Get in touch with us: Prayer Request.

We are praying for you and your family. Today, we continue to receive wonderful testimonials of what the Lord is doing in your lives. There are too many highlights of these instances. That is the value answered prayers. To be heard in heaven above. The Lord is worthy of all the worship and every bit of praise.

James 5:16 King James Version (KJV)
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

What is fervent prayer?

Having been raised in and around the church, I can tell you believers love this scripture. As they should. The interesting part to me has always been that the part that tickles most itchy ears is the “availeth much” part. This negates the rest of the verse. So what does fervent mean? To define effectual fervent prayer we would best start by breaking down each part into smaller chunks. This will allow us to explore this verse in the simplest way possible.

Effectual Prayer

To be effectual is to produce the desired result. Effectual prayer is a prayer that brings that results that have been prayed for. When you pray for the sick and see healing, that is effectual prayer. I would say that for the most part, this is what we want. Although at times we say prayers because they sound good, or because we have not thought about what the result of these prayers means.

effectual prayer

A great example of this is when we pray “break our hearts for what breaks yours”. It is often a result of a song. We have not taken time to internalise the lyrics, to understand what it is that we are getting ourselves into. Always consider the potential effect of your prayers before you utter them.

On a lighter note, you will also see people pray “Lord remove anyone who is hindering my success.” What happens when you are the one standing in your own way? What does it look like when that prayer is effectual. As the Lord would say to James and his brother, “You don’t know what it is that you are asking for.”

Effectual Prayer is

Effectual prayer is effective, efficient, fruitful, potent, productive and so on. When prayer is not effectual, it becomes fruitless, ineffective, unproductive, and dare I say, USELESS.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/effectual

Fervently Praying

To be fervent in prayer is to exhibit passion and great intensity when you pray. Jesus warns us to not be like the Pharisees who do things to be noticed by their peers. When you pray to be seen by man, man becomes your God. Your prayers are to be answered by that God.

We know that prayer is about finding a secret place to be alone with the Lord. To be passionate alone, where no one can see. To be filled with zeal in your prayer closet. To show zeal, in secret, where no one can support or commend you for your effort. I believe that this is one of the reasons why our prayer rooms are often empty. That zeal for prayer is missing.

To be fervent in prayer is to be blazing, burning, charged, emotional, fiery, intense, and so on. Do you feel that your prayer life exhibits these things? Or is it cold, cool, dispassionate, emotionless, unemotional and impassive? This is an honest reflection that we should always have with ourselves as prayer warriors. Lest our prayers become acts of simply going through the motions.

The Art of Fervent prayer

God forbid that our prayer lives would become rituals. There is a passion when the truth is spoken in love and from the heart. This is the place that our prayers should reside in. They should come from a place where we love ourselves and others so much that we pour it all out before the throne of grace.

You can not be loving and cold in prayer. How can one be comfortable being cold in prayer while watching the world around them perish? There is passion on the other side of the fence. The enemy is evangelising and turning our youths away from the path of truth. If we are not fiery in prayer, we are losing ground daily. We also ought to remember that prayer is a form of warfare. You cannot go into war without being charged!

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fervent

Jesus was fervent in prayer!

I imagine you don’t need to be reminded of how much Jesus’ walk was filled with miracles. We know that wherever he went people were healed. Even when there was unbelief, he brought effectual prayer with him. The blind saw the deaf heard and the dead rose!

Luke 22:44 New King James Version (NKJV)

44 And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Jabez was fervent in prayer

We know that God answered Jabez’s prayer. What you seldom hear is that Jabez was clearly fervent. He was righteous. These are the things that lined up to make his prayer effectual.

Elijah was fervent in his prayers

I single out Elijah on this one, but it was not just him. All of the Lord’s prophets were fervent in their prayers. The Bible is packed with results of just how effectual their prayers were. Their lives were accompanied by astounding miracles. We know that Elijah prayed that it would not rain, and it did not rain until he asked the Lord to open the heavens again. He was a man of passion.

We know that he gathered all the prophets of Baal for a showdown on Mt Carmel! This was done against the crown and rulership of his time. This was done when he thought he had no one to support him but God. If that is not fervency, I do not know what is.

Daniel was fervent in his prayers

We know that Daniel refused to let go of prayer, even at the risk of death. We also know that his friends went into the fire because of this fervency. That passion for prayer is one that should never die out in the body of Christ. How does your passion manifest today. Most of us live in nations where prayer can be carried out at our leisure, without the risk of persecution.

The early church thrived in the midst of intense persecution. We know that they added in numbers daily, while they were being murdered for their faith. That was a time of effectual, fervent prayer by righteous men and women of God. Are we becoming too relaxed and passive in our ways? So much such that the value of prayer is starting to diminish in our eyes.

Peter became fervent in prayer

Righteous

The other key component that is often ignored is the personnel specification for this effectual fervent prayer. We know that for this cocktail to work, we need it to be coming from a righteous man. For prayer to be effectual, it needs to be fervent, and you need to be righteous. This is not to discount anyone here. The bible tells us that all man’s righteousness is as filthy rags.

Isaiah 64:6 New King James Version (NKJV)

6 But we are all like an unclean thing,
And all our righteousnesses are like [a]filthy rags;
We all fade as a leaf,
And our iniquities, like the wind,
Have taken us away.

The beauty of it all is that we are not called to be a “wonder” on this earth in our own strength. We are called to be enabled by God. Our strength is made perfect in him. He is our source, our very strength. It is when we choose to do things alone that we fall flat on our faces. Our very righteousness in Christ! This is our heritage as the children of God.

Availeth Much

Although it is seldom admitted, the church has sold God solely on this characteristic. He avails much. Prayer avails much. This is an attribute of God that has been used to fill pews with unbelieving believers. We have conditioned people and have been conditioned to seek his hand first. That being said, we know we can stand on the truth that, when we pray, God responds.

He makes a way where there seems to be none. Our God specialises in the impossible. He specialises in dead ends. These he turns into open doors. However, the criteria remain. We are to be fervent and righteous. The Bible teaches us to seek first his kingdom, and in doing so God availeth much!

This is not the gospel that fills the pews and offering baskets. The congregations want to hear of a God that availeth much, and not one who wants us to seek first his kingdom. The pursuit of riches is leaving a lot of unbelieving “believers” in worse states than they were in when they came to the church. It is pulling people from desperation into much worse conditions.

There are wolves among the sheep. There are wolves purporting to lead the sheep. The greed of the sheep is leading them to feed the wolves in hope that the wolves would share on the grace that they have. All this without realising that the wolves have none left. To make this clearer, many pastors and church leaders are robbing the flock that they should be feeding. The flock is just as guilty as the pastors are.

Fervent Prayer Worksheet

It can be very difficult to see fervency in yourself. We want to make sure that prayer is deliberate. As such, there are certain lines of enquiry that you can take. You can use these to consider your last prayer.

  1. Have I put everything into this?
  2. Would I do/say the same thing if no one was here but God?
  3. Is my conscience clear? If not, let’s start with lay that before his throne of grace
  4. Is there passion in my heart?
  5. Am I speaking my heart
  6. Is there zeal in my words?
  7. Is that zeal shining through my actions?
  8. Did I tell God everything?

Prayer Points for seed: prayer for seed sowing

Welcome to another month of corporate prayer. There is uncommon power when the saints join in agreement. We have seen and continue to see God move in mighty ways worldwide. Do not take this prayer time lightly, by any means. We have a natural tendency to become complacent or too comfortable over time.

I encourage you to pursue the Lord in spirit and truth actively and, more than anything, to be prayerful in your prayers. Never let these prayers become mere rituals. Reach into heaven’s bosom and pour your everything into it. God forbid this sacred and special time to become anything other than heaven on earth.

If you haven’t partnered with us in prayer before, I would like to welcome you! Our family grows monthly, with more and more people worldwide partnering in what God is doing here. We are honoured to be a part of it all.

Our prayer points are set in threes, with a vision of having someone praying through every hour of the day. There are three prayer points for each hour. Pick an hour or just a part of the hour to pray with us.

Father, we thank you for these prayer points for Seed. We thank you for every individual that will labour in prayer. We honour you, for you are a God of the result! A God who will never fail us. May these prayer points for seed yield plentiful harvests in Jesus’ name. Amen

Sowing a seed offering: Prayer for seed sowing

You give Seed to the sower

2 Corinthians 9:10 New International Version (NIV)

10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.

  • Lord, we thank you for your faithfulness to your word! You give Seed to the sower.
  • Father, I thank you for all Seed that you have placed in my hand
  • By your faith in me, may I show faith in you.

Seed time

Genesis 8:22 New International Version (NIV)

22 “As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease.”

  • Lord, thank you, for you are Lord over seasons
  • Give me the wisdom to know when to sow
  • May I never be swayed by emotions, worldly wisdom or ungodly counsel.

Multiply my Seed

Genesis 22:17 New International Version (NIV)
