Why We Say Prayer for Grandchildren
Page Contents
One of the amazing blessings that we get to enjoy your well-deserved while on earth is that of being able to care for grandchildren. For most of us, just the opportunity to see them is all that we could ask for. However, as we would’ve known from raising our own children there is only so much that we can do. The rest, well, lays in the capable hands of the Most High God. It’s such a comforting feeling to know that when we fall short, there somebody else overseeing this process and intervening on our behalf.
As amazing as we may think we are or are indeed, we may actually be we are imperfect. There are so many things that we would like to do and say that may not manifest in the ways that we would have intended. Unfortunately, these are the sort things affect children in their developmental phase in ways that we could not recognise in time or remedy.
Fortunately, we always have God to turn to. Praying for your grandchildren is one of the greatest gifts that could ever give them. This goes beyond being able to teach them to pray and also goes to a place where you are able to ask for divine intervention in places where you were not able to intervene all I’m not presents to intervene.
Throughout scripture, you’d find generation after generation the children would always have the blessing of the parents or grandparents. There is untold power in the words of a spoken over your children and grandchildren.
Genesis 48
Jacob Blesses Joseph’s Sons
48 Now it came to pass after these things that Joseph was told, “Indeed your father is sick”; and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. 2 And Jacob was told, “Look, your son Joseph is coming to you”; and Israel [a]strengthened himself and sat up on the bed. 3 Then Jacob said to Joseph: “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me, 4 and said to me, ‘Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will make of you a multitude of people, and give this land to your descendants after you as an everlasting possession.’
If you’re not speaking over you when children I can most certainly guarantee you that somebody else is speaking into the lives. Even the smallest of ways are things at the watch the fees of a listen to somebody else is telling them what they are is tender who they can be and turn them what they can and cannot do. It is up to you to impart knowledge that they can do all things through Christ and strength.
Wisdom and stature
The first thing I’m going to pray over is that as Christ grow in wisdom and stature our grandchildren will be like him in that sense. I will pray that as they grow God’s wisdom is in them and everything that they do that all the decisions are in line with his will.
Luke 2:52 New International Version (NIV)
52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
Father, I thank you for my grandchild/ren in Jesus name. As they grow I as that you would be a light unto their path. Lord, even at times when they may not realise that they need you. Where they go astray, I ask that you would guide them back onto the path of righteousness.

Order every footstep that they will take. Lord, may my grandchildren always be about your business. Let your will manifest in every area of their lives. That they would desire you. I pray that you would grant them wisdom in every possible way. May they desire wisdom, seek wisdom and find wisdom. In Jesus’ name! Amen
Psalm 119:133 New International Version (NIV)
133 Direct my footsteps according to your word;
let no sin rule over me.
Parenting
Parents, guardians and we as grandparents play significant roles in the raising of our children. A lot of who they become is down to who we are. The bible teaches us to train a child in a way that he/she is to walk. If we are unable to train them, best believe someone out there will do the training for us. In most cases, the path that they are led onto will not be the one that we want for our grandchildren. Our next prayer point is for the people that are in these important roles.
Proverbs 22:6 New International Version (NIV)
6 Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

Lord Jesus, we thank you for the parents and guardians that will be in these children’s lives. We ask that your wisdom would guide them in the way that they should train the child. Let it not be done through their own wisdom but through yours. Lord, we acknowledge that your ways are higher than ours. Even in our grandest of wisdom and love, we may fall short. We put it all into your hands. Open our eyes to the things that we should say. Teach us to use our words to build and not to break these children. The latter is easier done. We ask this in Jesus’ name! Amen
Health
Even where the rest of the things go well, health is of utmost importance. Bad health will cut short lives that have greatness ahead of them. God forbid that your grandchild would not achieve that which the Lord has set them out to achieve. The bible tells us that the Lord knew our grandchildren before they were formed. They are his seeds on this planet. Our prayer is that they would be healthy and fruitful ones.
Jeremiah 1:5 New International Version (NIV)
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew[a] you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Dear Heavenly Father,
We ask that you grant our grandchildren the gift of good health. We pray that every part of their body would function as it was intended to. Lord, we speak against any diseases in body, mind or spirit. Lord, we minister healing in Jesus’ name! May your mighty hand come upon them in all that they do. From the top of their heads to the soles of their feet, divine health is their portion in Jesus’ name! Amen
Friends
We understand from scripture that Lot was preserved because of this relationship with Abraham. The disciples would never have turned the worlds upside down if not for their relationship with Christ. In fact, those that saw them after Jesus had died, knew they had been with him.
I believe the boldness of Shadrek, Mishaek and Abednego was founded in their shared faith. It is in walking together that their names were written in history eternally. By the same token, we also know that countless men and women fall daily due to the company that they keep. Our prayer today is that our children would be surrounded by the sort company that propels them towards God’s best for their life.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank you for the lives of our grandchildren. We ask that you would guide them at every turn in Jesus’ name. Lord, let no one that is not going to lead them to you is rooted in their lives. If there is anyone right now that will draw them away from your will we as that that relationship come to an end in Jesus’ name. Lord, we pray that you would surround them with men and women after your heart. Raise mentors to guide them in their walk. In Jesus’ name! Amen
Live a Full life
At the end of his life, the Apostle Paul famously said that he had lived and poured everything that he had out of him. Not that anyone would ever doubt that. This is a man who met Christ on his route to Damascus and ended up turning the world upside down. Having said that, most people never get to this point.
Everything that has been put inside of us by God needs to come out and impact the world. The Bible tells us that all of creation is groaning and waiting for the sons of God to manifest them among us. For how long so the wait? That is down to us. Our prayer for today is that whatever has been placed inside our grandchildren come forth and be poured out to impact those around them in Jesus name.
Father God, We thank you for grandchildren. We thank you for everything that you set them out to do on this earth. God, for that we thank you because we know that their time on this planet will not be in vain. We thank you because we know that you alone know the plans that you have for them, Lord, plans for the good, no harm is to come to them. They will bear every seed that you’ve put inside of them. Father, we call it fourth look at in Jesus name.
Every gift, every talent that you put inside of them, Lord God, we call it forth. That they would be the wise stewards that use their gifts to expand your kingdom. May their gifts be a light that will show others to you. Whatever has remained buried inside of them for too long, let it come forth.
Let those that have sought to bury these gifts be put to shame. They buried them but didn’t realise that they were seeds. We call them up to sprout into their calling. We pray that they may impact those around them. In the name of Jesus. We call our grandchildren into fulfilment, into your wholeness, right now.
In the mighty name of Jesus. In every of their life, may that they would be fruitful. Lord, there will be a fruitful in everything that they set out to do, in Jesus name. We ask that when their life comes to a natural end they would’ve lived for and died empty Lord God in Jesus name I pray. Amen.
