There are fewer prayers less frequented than the prayer of gratitude! The body of Christ has for too long been fed an attitude of seeking the hand of the Lord and not his heart. This is why many give to the church in a way that is almost transactional. They are almost seeking to bride God! What we miss out on is that gratitude is the grandest form of prayer! It is the purest form of prayer!
Just to allow yourself time to come before God with no requests! To just come with adoration and admiration.
Gratitude is often testimony given in advance! Thanking the Lord for what he is yet to do because you know he is faithful.
For Who You Are
Casting Crowns coined the phrase “The God who we want or the God who he is.” This is to say that there are things that we may wish God would do differently. Many walk away due to things not having gone their way, without ever learning to trust in his sovereignty.
This is to say, though we may not know what he is doing, we trust that he is doing something for our God. The goodness may not be immediately evident, but it will surely come to pass. There are several examples in the bible. Joseph in the pit would have perhaps been unhappy with his position, but lay it all in God’s hands. We just want to adore the Lord.
Prayer of Gratitude Using Names of God

Lord, you are my shepherd! You are Jehovah Raah. I thank you for guiding and keeping me all these years. Thank you for faithfully ordering my footsteps. I am grateful for your wisdom. You see what my eyes cannot are. You alone know the plans that you have for me. I thank you for having plans for my goodness. You are a good shepherd. Never have you left me alone! You have faithfully drawn me back into your arms when I have strayed away from your lead! All glory and honour belong to you. In Jesus’ name! Amen
Lord, I know you are there! I acknowledge your presence in a world that increasingly denies you. If it was not for your presence I don’t know where I would have been today! Thank you for being there for me at every turn.

Father, I know many men greater than I am that didn’t get to see today. I thank you for keeping me alive. Thank you for letting me see this day. Every day is a new opportunity, I am grateful to be given these oh Lord!
For Every Tear, I’ve Shed
Lord, I am grateful even for pain. Thank you for the lessons that have hurt. Thank you for every tear that I have shed. I know none is ever in vain. There is something incredible about having a place to come at my lowest as well as at my highest moments! In Jesus’ name! Amen
Father, I don’t thank you enough for my family. You chose them for me. Though it is not always perfect, I am grateful for every one of them. I know there is a purpose in them being in my life, and in I being in theirs!
For A Roof Over My Head
Lord, I often take for granted that I have a home to go to at the end of the day! Thank you for putting a roof over my head. I am grateful for a place to rest.
For What I Do Not Have
Father, thank you for the things that I do not have. You are sovereign to know what I ought not to have. I am forever grateful for that, even when I may not understand why. Thank for even the things that I will never have! I give you all the glory! In Jesus’ name. Amen
Make a deliberate effort to write down the things that you are grateful for every day. Start right away. What are the 10 things that you are most grateful for at this moment? Write down the things that first come to mind.
