so far from my cries of anguish?

We rest in the truth of the knowledge that God is with us, in keeping with his eternal word. Yet, if we are honest there are seasons in which we have felt alone. Perhaps you are reading this because you are going through such a season.

2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,by night, but I find no rest.

We know that God’s time is best, but there is an inevitable restlessness that may come out of the desperation of waiting. As we are governed by worldly time, there are times that we feel that the Lord hasn’t come on time.

Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One;you are the one Israel praises.

King David acknowledges that, through all of this, God remains God!

4 In you our ancestors put their trust;they trusted and you delivered them.

He reminds himself that God is the same God that has shown up for his ancestors. He is the same God that was called upon repeatedly, trusted and delivered. No matter what you are facing, let this same truth rest in you!

5 To you they cried out and were saved; in you they trusted and were not put to shame.

6 But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people.

There is a temptation to begin to feel unworthy. Why would a God who comes through for everyone not come through for me? That is a battle that you should not entertain! The devil desires that you would contort your mind with such.

7 All who see me mock me;they hurl insults, shaking their heads.8 “He trusts in the Lord,” they say,“let the Lord rescue him.Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”

As a person of faith, a believer in Christ, there are expectation. People have things that they want to see of you. You are expected to always have things in check, as the church has made the world mistakenly believe that this is whom we are. A delay or lack of response in the way that you want, or at the time that you desire doesn’t invalidate God.

9 Yet you brought me out of the womb;you made me trust in you, even at my mother’s breast.10 From birth I was cast on you;from my mother’s womb you have been my God.

King David goes on to acknowledge what God has done for him so far. At his mother’s breast, where he would have been at his most helpless. God was found to be trustworthy. From the time he was young, God has walked with him, as he has with you.

11 Do not be far from me,for trouble is near
