In this article, we cover how to say a prayer for anxiety. We have included bible verses and some accompanying commentary. Just as fear is, anxiety is a thief. It comes to steal, kill and to destroy your joy. In the battlefield that your mind often is. When you start to lose this war, it is hard to carry on. There are many factors that contribute to anxiety.
Philippians 4:6-7 New King James Version (NKJV)
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
The Bible verse above is an illustration of how God feels about you being anxious. We are commanded to be anxious for nothing! Not a single thing! I will be first to admit that it is not something that you can simply switch off. We are wired to worry. Our minds are always racing to try to find solutions to problems that are not even problems yet. We are often anticipating that things may happen a certain way, which puts us on the edge.
In the simplest of terms, we are to lay everything bare before the Lord. What is it that is worrying you? Does the Lord know about it? If he does, do you trust him enough to let him handle it?
We often find that we have a tendency to play tug-of-war with the Lord. When we give something into his
Although there is some truth to it, it is not universal. God is the God of the helpless. He is God of those who
If you would pray, offer supplication and thanksgiving, God’s promise is that he will give you peace that surpasses all understanding. Beyond that, he will give you a long lasting solution, by guarding your heart and mind so that the fear you have had to deal with would not return.
Casting Away Fear
Joshua 1:9 New King James Version (NKJV)
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
You see, courage is a commandment. It is not a suggestion or recommendation. It is what the Lord expects from us. In return, he promises to be with us wherever we go. I will take that deal any day. It is not easy to be courageous. Our God is an enabler! Let us pray.
Dear God, I know you have commanded me to be courageous. I am trying right now but it is not easy. Help me! Help me! Give me the strength to be courageous, as you have commanded me to be. I want to, but my heart and mind are failing me. Yet, I hold onto to the truth that you can do it for me. Amen
Affirmation: I am not anxious
Joel 3:10 New King James Version (NKJV)
10 Beat your
And your pruning hooks into spears;
Let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’ ”
This is an incredible one in moments when your heart is filled with anxiety. Our words hold creative power. It is through the word that what we see became. God spoke things into existence. Your situation may say that you are anxious, you are weak, but God says to refuse to acknowledge it! Here are some affirmations for anxiety:
I am calm and collected in Jesus’ name.
My heart is filled with the peace of the Lord.
I am not anxious, fear is not my portion. In Jesus’ name.
It is well with me! It is well with my mind! It is well with my soul! In Jesus’ name! Amen.
We do not have the Spirit of Fear
2 Timothy 1:7 New King James Version (NKJV)
7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
God, more than anyone knows what you are made of. Fear was not one of the ingredients. It was power, love and a sound mind that he put in you instead.
Dear God, I know you did not place fear in me. I refuse to accept this lie. Fear is not my portion, I will walk in boldness. My feet stand in the truth that there is no fear in my being. There is hope in my every fibre, there is courage in my veins. In the mighty name of Jesus! Amen
Prayer for anxiety and worry
If you have God why are you worried?
Romans 8:31 New King James Version (NKJV)
God’s Everlasting Love
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Outside of God, there is none greater. There is not a single reason you should let worry creep into your heart if the Lord is for you! Romans 8 throws this out there, almost as a statement of defiance. Who can be against us? There are obviously many that can be against you, yet these are of no significance.
Lord, I know that I should not worry, but I come before you consumed by worry. There are things that are not going the way that I would like them to. Uncertainty makes it hard not to worry. Yet, I come before you because I accept that I need your help in this. I cannot live in worry. That is not your will for me. Take that worry away from me, in Jesus’ name! Amen
Anxiety and Depression
Depression is often a result of seeing no hope in sight. The sad thing is that sometimes we fall into it and never realise it. This is something that the church never takes time to address. If you have read our post about pastors and church leaders, you will know how prevalent this is among leaders in the church. Yet, it is often swept under the rug.
I found myself in this position once, due to grief and the pressure of ministry.
Lord we pray for those suffering from anxiety and depression. Open our eyes and hearts as the body of Christ, that we may note their plight and extend our open arms to them. Grant hope to those who have lost it.
I pray for myself as well. Depression is not my portion. Father pull me out of any prolonged state that I may not recognise as leading to this. You are my God! My restorer. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
