Most Christians wouldn’t know to or would not feel comfortable saying a prayer for comfort. We are warned that this life is not going to be an easy one. It is one that is fairly short and filled with trials and tribulations.

We also know that there is a God! Wherever there is something negative that is raised against his people, he is faithful to raise a standard against it or us that bad for the good.
When we say a prayer for comfort, we are asking God to be himself. We are not asking for something unbecoming or unknown. The Holy Spirit is a comforter! This is what He does! It is how he rolls. It would be foolish to not turn to him in our time of need when we know he is what we need.
John 14
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
John 14 verse 26 makes this very clear to us. The Holy Spirit works to bring comfort to the body of Christ, of which you and I are a part of. The moments in which I have needed the greatest comfort have been moments of uncertainty. When I do not know what is to come. My go-to has always been to withdraw from the world and be alone with the Lord.
There is a great comfort that is birthed by being in the prayer closet. It puts things back into perspective. This is where I would come out thinking that very statement that I have held onto for years. “I may not know what tomorrow holds, but I know who holds it.”

Overcome the World
John 16:33 New King James Version (NKJV)
33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you [awill havetribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
John 16 verse 33 is a verse that has always been a source of comfort. Just to know that no matter what happens at this moment, or what you are facing right now, there is
In moments of uncertainty, this was the only truth I needed to hear. No matter what was to happen at that moment, or tomorrow, the Lord would still be on his throne. And as long as he was still my God, he would work things in my favour.
In some moments, it is not even a change of situation that you may desire. We tend to get so caught up in life that we become drained and lifeless. Comfort in these moments may simply be lying in God’s arms. Just to have somewhere to take our concerns and worries if comforting.
When may one need prayer for comfort?
There is certainly no finite answer to this. It will come down to the individual. When do you need comfort? In those moments when you feel you could use a hug, a shoulder to cry on, or just an ear to listen. Here are some moments you may need prayer for comfort:
- During mourning and bereavement
- In times of uncertainty
- When you or someone dear to you is unwell
- While facing marital troubles
- While facing legal issues
- When in financial trouble
The list could go on and on. To make it simple, personalise it. What do you need to be comforted about? Do not ever allow yourself to be consumed by fear or think that you cannot take any situation to the Lord.
The way to pray is to tell the Lord everything about you like he didn’t know anything about you all the while knowing he knows everything about you. – Octavius Winslow

A Prayer for Comfort
Dear Heavenly Father, you are a father like no other. I am in need of comfort. Lord, you know what I am facing. You are fully aware of the situation that stands ahead of me. Yet, I know you are bigger than any problem that I could ever have. Father wrap your arms around me, that I may find comfort in you. Grant me peace of mind, oh God.
Father, I pray that you would give me strength and wisdom to not seek comfort elsewhere. I will not seek to be comforted by alcohol, sex or drugs. Holy Spirit, you are all I need. You are a lasting solution. You alone are a true solution.
I choose to trust in you. Even as it hurts, even as it is difficult for me, I run to you as my comforter. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
Conclusion
Thank you for faithfully partnering us in prayer. May the good Lord grant you comfort in this time as you seek it. Allow the Lord to give you comfort. We often give God room to do these things in our lives, then take it back into our own hands.
Lay it before the Lord. We are invited by God to do so. He asks that we come to him when we are weary and heavy ladened. Moments when you need comfort, you are clearly weary and heavy ladened. His promise is to give you rest.
Matthew 11:28 New King James Version (NKJV)
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
