Marriage Prayer Points for singles

Most girls dream and long for the day that they walk down the altar. Their wedding prayer is one for the best ideal venue, the ideal man, the best possible weather and location. Apostle Paul urges those that can to stay unmarried, because of what potentially comes after the beautiful day. 1 Corinthians 7

Marriage is a commitment that lasts a lifetime. One day for the wedding, and the rest of the life to experience marriage. As the church, we ought to place more emphasis and impression upon our boys and girls the significance of what is to come after the wedding.

The bible says that the Lord gives the desires of the heart, to those that delight in him. The late, Dr Myles Munroe has incredible teaching about the subject of preparation for marriage. It is called, The Myth of Singleness. I have placed the video below.

Add value to yourself, so that you bring more value to your spouse’s life as well. Your singleness is the most significant part of getting your marriage right. That is the period you get yourself ready, there is no transformation at the altar.

More than anything, our prayer is that the Lord would give you a spouse who will propel your destiny to greater heights, as you do the same for them! God forbid that your marriage would derail your destiny! We have created marriage prayer points for singles. It is the best time to sow into your marriage in prayer.

Lord prepare me: Marriage prayer points for singles

While it is great to find the right person to marry, it is more important to be the right person for someone else. Our prayer today is, Lord, make me the right person for my spouse.

  1. Father make my days of being single count. Prepare me to be the best spouse that I can be.
  2. Open my eyes to my own flaws while I am still alone. Give me the humility to acknowledge where I am wrong, and to want to be better.
  3. Teach me to build someone up, while I am still alone, that I may be a worthy co-pilot when I marry.

Lord protect my spouse

It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men. – Frederick Douglass

MARRIAGE PRAYER POINTS FOR SINGLES

This world is a cold place. People usually come into marriages carrying baggage from their childhood, from their single life. The quote by Mr Douglass rings true for both male and female spouses. We bring our brokenness into our relationships.

Our prayer is that God would begin to mend marriages and relationships, such that children are raised free of the baggage that our brokenness pushes onto them. Lord, teach us to build strong children.

  • Lord, I speak your covering over my spouse, even if I have yet to meet him/her. Protect them, in their coming and going out.
  • Grant them wisdom to grow into the man/woman that you have intended for them to become.
  • Just as you are preparing me to be a worthy companion and partner, raise him/her to be the same for me. Where I fall short, may they become a covering. Where he/she falls short, prepare me to be a covering.

Teach me to wait on you

We are often under pressure to be married by a certain age. This is a phenomenon that is common in the church. One could even argue that perhaps the pressure is one of the reasons why divorce rates have been rising even within the church. The bible tells us that there is grace for those who wait on the Lord.  Isaiah 40:31

The bible tells us of the pressure that Job was under due to people not seeing the hand of God in his life. We also know of the reward that was at the end of his faithful wait! Though it hurt, he waited!

  • Father teach me to wait on you. That I would not fall into the arms of the wrong person to appease family, friends or the church. A good wife and husband come from you, so I will wait for you.

Proverbs 19:14 “House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.”

  • Lord your time is perfect. May I not be swayed by earthly wisdom, rather, trust in your will and your process.

Proverbs 14:12 “12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

Surround me with the right mentors

Wherever greatness is, there has always been a great mentor to foster it. Think of anyone who you think has achieved a great marriage. They had their grandparents to look at and think, “Lord, that is the sort marriage that I want.”

The disciples who went on to turn the world upside down had been mentored by Christ. The bible tells us that when they spoke, people recognised whom they had spent time with.

Acts 4:13 says the following, “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took note concerning them that they had been with Jesus.”

It didn’t matter how messed up or dysfunctional where these men had come from. It no longer mattered that they were unlearned and ignorant! They had been mentored well. Our prayer is that God would bring such people into your life, such that when people see where you end up, they will see the hand of the Lord!

  • Lord make me coachable at every turn. Give me the grace to love correction, humility to accept my fault and bravery to make changes where I can. Proverbs 12:1
  • Lord as you raised Elizabeth in Mary’s time of need, raise someone to stand with me. Raise someone to speak life into me, to help me believe when I cannot see. Luke 1:39-45
  • Father give me the gift of discernment, to pick out the good voices from a crowd that will speak to me or over me!

My marriage will be sweet

Great marriages are a bedrock for generations to come. This is why it is important for the enemy to fight our marriages. Our prayer is “Lord my marriage will not be a statistic for failure!”

  • Father raise my marriage as a beacon of your grace!
  • Father may we build it all on you! If we build without you we build in vain! Psalm 127.
  • You are the giver of every good and perfect gift. Grant me a sweet and wondrous marriage oh God.

Make me the best wife/husband I can possibly be

Men are raised to want the perfect woman for a wife. Women are raised to want the perfect man for a husband. There is little or no emphasis on being the perfect man or woman.

If we all want and no one focuses on being, we are setting ourselves up to fail. Our prayer today is that the Lord would deal with you as you wait for your intended.

  • Search my heart oh Lord. If there is anything in me that will stand in the way of the marriage that you intend for me, rid me of it Lord!
  • Show me my brokenness, oh Lord. Where my shortcomings are, those that I may be blind to.
  • Mend my brokenness. Father, whatever is broken in me, from my childhood, from previous relationships. Whatever baggage I am carrying forward, Lord heal me of it.

Prayer points for marriages with bible verses

Why do we need marriage prayer points?

Along with families, there is a persistent attack on the institution of marriage. Broken marriages have a far-reaching effect. Statistics show that the current divorce rate in the United States of America is between 40-50%.

The number of marriages is also falling over the last few years. More and more children are being born outside of wedlock. This lack of stability is crippling our societies. You may think this is a US statistic, but it stretches far and wide. The decline in marriage rates is also mirrored in the UK.

Marriage Stats

UK Marriage Stats

God knows the importance of marriage and designed it to be a cradle for families. We ought to stand up for our marriages.  Mark 10:9 “Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” We need more and more men and women to take a stand for their marriages, more and more people to not walk away from their unions but to seek the Lord’s direction and intervention in their marriages.

In the mighty name of Jesus, Lord, we speak your blessing over these prayer points. May your anointing be upon all who use these prayer points. May your presence bring resolution to marriages that are on the rocks today.

Father, may more marriages be built on the rock that is Christ instead of the sand that is worldly wisdom. Call back husbands’ hearts to their wives, wives’ hearts to their husbands.

Father, raise more men into true fatherhood as you had intended in marriages. Every spirit that rises against marriages, the father, may you raise a standard against them in Jesus’ name. Amen

Here are our prayer points for marriage. Share them with your loved ones.

Prayer Points for Marriage prayer

Take your concerns to God

I believe if we as a people were able to grasp this simple teaching, many marriages would be saved, and many relationships would be repaired. Many men and women worldwide are hurting because of things that were carelessly said, words that were carelessly thrown around.

If I’m speaking to you today, I want you to know that there is healing; there is a balm in Gilead to make your wounded heart whole. That balm is Christ. This message is very personal because, Lord knows, I spent time actively breaking relationships for insignificant reasons for the better part of my teenage years, even when I think of them today. Direct your concerns to God. I drew some principles from all this.

  • Never have a relationship outside of God: Companionship, friendship or dating. Do not go into any of it without bringing God in with you. God should always be a part of it all. It does not matter if the other person does not believe in God.

Think of it this way, if you are married, when you meet a new friend, they don’t have to like your husband/wife or believe in them. Your husband/wife is a part of you; the bible says two become one, which is the way it should be in our marriage to God.

When you take God with you into a relationship with a work colleague, you close a door for the devil to place you in temptation for an affair. When you take God with you into a relationship with the company or your boss, you know who you answer to, regardless of whose name is on the paycheck.

Church five fold ministry
  • Emotions should go through God first: Have you ever said something and then wished you had not said it, perhaps turned around and said, “I didn’t mean it.” The sad part is that words can not be taken back once released.

They sting. Whether it is love, anger or whatever other emotion you may feel towards a person, take it to God first. If your spouse makes you mad, do not speak to them about it before you speak to God; vent your emotions to God.

When you speak to God, he will begin to remind you that “Vengeance is his” Romans 12:19, “Forgive as the father has forgiven you” Ephesians 4:32. When you vent to the Lord, you become more conscious of things that you would have easily overlooked when talking to the person you are mad at, or the person you are in love with.

  • Get comfortable crying before God: In any relationship you get into, there is always room for hurt. To truly love is to expose your weakness and be at the other person’s mercy. Nothing is more healing than bearing it all to God when you have been hurt or lied to.

Get this, when the Shunammite (2 Kings 4:25-)woman ran to Elijah and was met by his servant, she told the servant that all was well even though her child had died. I learned this from Dr Masiyiwa’s testimony recording; God had given her this child.

She had started this with God. God is obligated to fix what he starts with you. She knew it was well because God was the manufacturer; he would honour his warranty. Get comfortable crying before God before you run off crying to man. When your concern reaches God first, he is faithful to go on ahead and deal with the other person before you get to them.

Make a decision today to never speak to man concerning an issue before consulting God, to never make a decision before consulting him. And finally, to never take your concerns before man before taking them before him. Direct your concerns to God.

Father, we praise this wonderful teaching and heal our hearts today. Grant us grace to start and finish everything with you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

God bless you; share this with someone else who needs to hear this message.

Marriage Prayer: Childhood hurt

“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” These are the words of Frederick Douglass. I believe that this is an analogy that applies to women as much as it does to men.

Some so many broken men and women are being put together with other broken men and women and expected to create strong marriages. Father, heal our homes.

Psalm 34: 4

I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

  1. Father, we pray for victims of sexual and physical abuse. Heal them, Lord. Take away the scars and bitterness that these experiences have left. May they not be carried into their marriages and relationships.
  2. Lord, we pray for parents and guardians. Give them the wisdom to raise strong men and women.
  3. Lord, raise strong marriages among us that the next generation can admire and aspire to.
  4. Father, we pray you would raise mentors for our young generation to show them the way.
  5. Lord, we pray for broken parents and guardians to have the wisdom to not pass down their hurt and insecurity to the next generation. Heal them, father, as they raise these children.
  6. We pray for children being raised in undesirable situations to be rescued. Make way for the dear Lord.
  7. Open our eyes to situations where you can use us to be part of the solution, in Jesus’ name.
  8. Give us the boldness to walk in your will and show and encourage others to do the same.

Formation

Our societies are becoming ones without moderation. Marriages are wonderful but are being viewed less and less in that light. More and more people blindly enter this sacred union. Either because of the burden of pressure and expectation within our churches.

The Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 7 acknowledges the beauty of marriage but also the ease of single life. It is good to be married, but not mandatory. Not all can be single and live a holy life, but neither can all be married. If you desire marriage, that is a beautiful thing. May the Lord deliver that desire to you, in Jesus’ name.

Proverbs 30:18

  1. Father, let the wives’ hearts be consumed with love and passion for their husbands. May husbands be equally consumed with love and passion for their wives.
  2. We speak your love into marriages in their formative stages. We speak direction and wisdom into relationships and courtships as they build towards marriage.

2 Corinthians 6:14

  1. Father, we pray that you would raise more and more God-fearing men and women within the church.
  2. We pray for firm foundations in relationships.
  3. Raise wiser men and women to guide young lovers.
  4. Open our eyes and guide our choices of mates.

Proverbs 18:22

  1. Father, we pray that you would open our eyes as we seek to find ideal mates.
  2. Give us wisdom not to be swayed by visual desires. Some ways may seem right to men but will only lead to death. Preserve us, oh Lord.

Genesis 2:24

  1. Father, you command a blessing where there is unity. Bring unity into our relationships.
  2. We pray for purpose and a shared vision for couples.
  3. Lord, we pray that couples would well and truly become one. Raise us to value, cherish and to love one another.

Luke 20:34

  1. Lord, make us co-guardians of our spouses’ souls. Give us a true desire to lead them in your way.
  2. We will be true stewards of the husband or wife that you give us. To bring the best out of them, as they do for us.
  3. May we love them as you have loved us, without condition but full of sacrifice.
  4. May our eyes be cast on things above, more than things of this earth.

1 Corinthians 7:9

  1. Dear Lord, may our desires for marriage be noble.
  2. Protect us from negative relationships, and protect others from us, where we may be their detractors.
  3. May our shared desires and vision unite us in Christ and through him.

Longevity

With marriages falling apart sooner than ever, there is a lack of longevity. Our prayer is that the Lord would grant us longevity. Father, establish marriages that last long, marriages that are strong and with direction. Let some marriages be built on the rock that is Christ. That is our next marriage prayer point.

Proverbs 12:4

  1. Father, we thank you for your wonderful wives. We pray for longevity. Grace them in their day-to-day lives for fruitful and fulfilling marriages.
  2. Grant husbands grace to love and cherish the gift that is their wives.

  3. Teach us to identify and appreciate one another’s value.

Mark 10:9

  1. Lord, you have brought couples together. We pray that you would keep them together.
  2. Cast away any person that would like to separate marriages.
  3. Any wedges that seek to separate men and women you brought together should be removed in Jesus’ name.
  4. No man or woman will separate us! We speak to strength in marriages in Jesus’ name.

1 Peter 4:8

  1. Lord, teach us not to dwell on one another’s shortcomings but to love through it all.
  2. We will love fervently as Christ loved.
  3. May our love cover the faults of our loved ones.

Ephesians 5:21:

  1. Lord, may we be brought together by reverence to you.
  2. You are the foundation of our relationships.
  3. Anything that we haven’t built on you, may it not stand.
  4. We choose to build on the rock that is Christ.
  5. We submit to our wives and husbands for your glory, oh Lord.
  6. May our marriages be established and unbreakable.

Healing and renewal

We will pray for marriages on the rocks and falling apart while we remain oblivious. There is nothing too dead for a resurrection. We are praying for those marriages that either spouse or both have given up on.

The Bible says, when Jesus arrived at Lazarus’ house, Mary and Martha had given up on his life. Healing was impossible, but resurrection was inconceivable. May the Lord do the inconceivable for your marriage in Jesus’ name. Let love arise!!

Ephesians 4:32

  1. Father, soften our hearts. Soften the wives and husbands’ hearts. Cast away all pain and hurt. Cast away all bitterness in Jesus’ name.
  2. Teach us to forgive, and grant grace to the point where it hurts.
  3. Father, you have continued to forgive us, may we show that same love to others.
  4. Heal us of hurt, open our hearts oh Lord.

1 Peter 3:7

  1. Father, we pray for all husbands; give them the grace to be patient and understanding.
  2. Father, teach husbands to honour their wives.
  3. Lord, may their weaknesses be strengthened by their wives’ strengths, and their strengths be their husbands’ strengths in Jesus’ name.
  4. May husbands never look down upon their wives but view them as equals. In the name of Jesus!
  5. Let our prayers bear results, in Jesus’ name.

Infidelity

Infidelity is a key factor in the break-up of most marriages. We want to pray for resolution and in marriages marred by infidelity. God can heal in all cases. It is not too late for your marriage. Father, where there is hurt, where there is mistrust, where there has been betrayal, dear Lord, help us.

Hebrews 13:4

  1. Father, may our marriages bring you honour. Where we have brought you dishonour, we repent.
  2. Lord, where we have been wronged and taken our eyes off you to focus on our hurt, help us look up to you.
  3. Where our marriage beds have brought you dishonour, father, forgive us.
  4. Father, forgive us for our infidelity or an unforgiving nature where we have been wronged.
  5. May your judgement be merciful in Jesus’ name. Amen

Exodus 20:17

  1. Father, may our eyes be in covenant with you. To not look upon others’ wives and husbands.
  2. Where we have looked in lust, Lord forgive us.
  3. Any adulterous desires are cast away in Jesus’ name. Amen

Fruitfulness

Our mandate is one of fruitfulness on this earth. Our marriages are no exception. Our prayer is that the Lord, would grace us to be fruitful in all we do. May the Lord birth fruitfulness in our relationships, homes, businesses, and all else we set our minds to and put our hands to work on. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Genesis 1:22

  1. Father, we pray for fruitful and fulfilling marriages. Open our eyes to traits in ourselves that may be a hindrance to this.
  2. Open our eyes to the opportunity to sow the seed of love and in love.
  3. May our hearts be consumed by your love, that we would not contain but share the fruit of your love.

Divorce

Divorce is the hardest thing anyone could go through when it comes to relationships. Our key marriage prayer is that the Lord would raise men and women who have fallen to this pit. Let this not be the end but a new beginning through Christ.

1 Corinthians 7:15

  1. Father, we pray for healing where differences in faith have broken marriages. We pray for peace for both parties.
  2. We pray for children in these situations; cover them, oh Lord.
  3. Let this relationship be one that they carry into their future relationships.
  4. Soften hearts for peaceful resolutions.

Ephesians 4:2

  1. Let our hearts be filled with humility, whether wrong or wronged.
  2. May humility be our portion through Christ.
  3. Even in divorce, let no hatred develop. May love reign.
