There are countless stories and testimonies that we can share about the result of powerful prayer against addiction. The two that stand out in my mind as I write this are one of a man that Spurgeon met on the train, and one of the Hispanic comedian Dennis Gaxiola whose father met Christ while in prison as an addict. He dropped addiction like the bad habit that it is and came to Christ.
Back to the Spurgeon story. He recounts how he met a man on a train that had struggled with an addiction to whiskey. This had caused him to lose his family, health and to plunder a large portion of wealth. He had explained to Spurgeon that he couldn’t stop. Yet that is not the God that Spurgeon knew.
Dennis Gaxiola’s father’s transformation can somewhat be likened to the apostle Paul. He took such a sharp turn, from addicted convicted to a passionate travelling preacher. The beauty of it all is the heritage of faith that he has been able to pass down to his children. It could have been one of addiction.
But for God.
Addiction tears families apart. This is not what the Lord wants for his people. Whatever holds you against your will is demonic. When you are addicted, you ruin relationships with the people around you. You are a slave to whatever it is that you are addicted to.
Todd White is another great example of what the Lord can do. Having been addicted for about two decades, the Lord radically changed his life. Today he travels the world sharing the gospel. Where a miracle is relatable, there is a greater impact. This is the significance of the Lord

Life More Abundantly
John 10:10 King James Version (KJV)
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Addictions place a limitation on what you can do, where you can go and who you can become. The cemetery is packed with dreams, visions and talents that were killed prematurely by addiction. Yet, we know our God to be a redeemer. In the name of Jesus, receive abundant life! As you pray, may the Holy Spirit deliver supernatural solutions.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I stand on your word today. This thief that is addiction will not steal, kill or destroy in my sphere of influence. As I pray Lord, whatever addictions that family, friends or acquaintances are struggling with. Father, begin to touch them right now.
May the be brought into a place that you came for. In the name of Jesus, they will have life more abundantly. I pray for a reversal of any damage that has been brought on by addiction. Heal their minds, heal their homes, their hearts and their bodies in Jesus’ name. Amen
Long-Standing Addictions
Mark 9:21-27 New King James Version (NKJV)
21 So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?”
And he said, “From childhood. 22 And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” 26 Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
The saddest thing about addiction is that, for the m
The church has often been culpable of not extending a hand of mercy to addicts. It is a sad sight if an addict is to receive better treatment from drug dealers and other addicts than from a born again Christian.
We want to pray for those affected by these issues. Todd White’s testimony gives a clear picture of the sort of damage that his addiction had caused with his family. May God bring redemption and transformation.
Prayer
Lord, we confess as a church, as the body of Christ, that we have often castaway those you would have had time for. Teach us to love as you do.
We pray for families and friends hurt and broken by addiction. Lord heal their hearts. Foster hope into their life. Show them the way to help their loved one. Open their hearts to love unconditionally, as you do.
Lord, we pray for long-standing addictions. Those that people have given up on. Father, we speak light. Let there be light in that darkness. Pour your Holy Spirit as you have done for Todd and for Dennis’ father. Love them when they are at their least loveable state. That is who you are.
Bring transformation as only you can. We command all forms of drug addiction to bow under your anointing as we pray. We speak against sexual addiction and all forms of immorality including pornography that are killing men and women’s souls. Heal them oh Lord. Release them from the yoke of this bondage. We know from your word that, it is on the anointing that can break the yoke.
Free Indeed
John 8:34-36 New King James Version (NKJV)
34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Prayer
Lord, we thank you for always being a promise keeper. A deliverer, and a breaker of chains. We thank you for all the addictions that you have set free as we have prayed. Thank you for release your people from slavery to sin. As you have set them free, they are free indeed. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen
Thank you for praying with us. May God be glorified. If you would like to partner with us. Consider becoming a PATREON.
