The state is the leading producer of several crops, including dry edible beans, navy beans, sunflowers, honey, and more . In addition, North Dakota is a major producer of oil and natural gas, with its energy industry playing a significant role in the state’s economy .
Doug Burgum is the governor of North Dakota and has been in office since 2016 . He is a former businessman and entrepreneur who has made economic growth and job creation one of his priorities .
Mike Schmitz is the current Mayor of Bismarck, North Dakota, having assumed office on June 28, 2022, after winning the general election on June 14, 2022, with 5,736 votes . Schmitz is a business leader, a lifelong resident of Bismarck, and a political outsider who ran for mayor to “make Bismarck better” . During his campaign, he promised to increase transparency, look at water rates, and listen to the public’s needs . After winning the election, he released a list of three guiding principles for city leadership: making city government friendlier, more efficient, and simpler . Schmitz defeated the incumbent mayor, Steve Bakken, in the election, despite having less name recognition and being a political outsider. He has a successful career as an accountant and is committed to protecting taxpayers’ interests .
John Hoeven is the senior senator from North Dakota and has served in this position since 2011. Before his tenure in the Senate, Hoeven served as the 31st Governor of North Dakota from 2000 to 2010 . As a Republican senator, Hoeven’s priorities include implementing national policies that drive North Dakota’s economic success, and he has recently supported the $550 billion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act . Hoeven is up for reelection in 2028, and his current term runs until Jan 3, 2029 .
Kevin Cramer, a Republican senator, has been serving as the junior senator from North Dakota since 2019 . Before his Senate tenure, Cramer served three terms as North Dakota’s At-Large Member of the United States House of Representatives.
